Trying Something New : The Wolf and Tree

Trying Something New : The Wolf and Tree

The Breaking Ground Blog Tour is all about trying new thing and pushing your boundaries.  One perk to this is trying new to me designers and patterns.

For our first stop on this tour ( holy cow we have two this time!) I decided to try making socks. This is something I've never messed with but always had on my list to get to at some point. Our wonderful owner Brandi suggested The Wolf and Tree Going Rouge Sock.  So I was off to try them.

I chose our firearms and freedom print on cotton lycra and happened to have a bit left that Brandi dyed for me and I thought it would make fun socks.

I double checked my size and printed the pattern. There are so very many options on this pattern for both men and woman! Huge plus since I have almost no patterns for my poor husband ( I need to fix that!).

A quick cut and sew is another plus on this pattern. I like quick projects they make my life a little more manageable with toddlers.

This is my first  Wolf and Tree pattern, but they have several I would love to make for my daughter.  The ballerina skirt in particular looks beyond adorable and I think my little would go crazy for it ( or absolutely hate it after I spent time making it only to love it later because.... well toddlers)

So on to these socks!   I gotta tell you strait off the serger it was not love. They felt loose and when I pulled them up  where the bottoms felt more comfortable there was a huge gap in the arch. This could simple be due to having very high arches.

To get a good fit I needed to make some adjustments luckily it was an easy enough to find what worked for me to get a fit I like.  I simple shaved a slight curve into the seam on the foot portion of the sock taking about 3/4 an inch at the deepest point of my arch. This made a much better fit for my foot.

Now that I have figured out the tweak to get a better fit ( for me) I will likely make myself a couple pairs for lounging around the house. Since I wear boots as my normal everyday footwear ( you would too after being stepped on by a 1200 lb gelding a few times without them) I don't think these will be great to wear with those. That is unless I find some nice very thick and stretchy fabric comparable to boot socks.

Pictures! I almost forgot those... that would have been bad.

Socks are kind of awkward to photograph yourself. I'm just going to say this background is actually a wall.

O I like this one. Never seen perfect stitched socks before. The fabric is so cute.

Your sewing is so neat! What kind of sewing machine do you use to sew the socks?
