Red, White and Pink Blog Tour

Red, White and Pink Blog Tour

The perfect assignment (for something I've been needing to make for a while)

I signed up for the red white and pink blog tour hosted by Sewing by Ti a little late in the game however it ended up being just the push I needed to get in gear and make my neighbors daughter a red dress like she has been asking for.

Gwen really wanted a red dress. She is young but built a lot like me despite her age this makes finding ready to wear  clothing that fits well hard then when you add the need to be age appropriate and modest it becomes next to impossible to simply go shopping and buy a dress.  But lucky for them they have an awesome neighbor that is kind of amazing at creating things from fabric. I knew just the pattern to try but knew I was going to need to make some alterations to work with the cuts of fabric I had on hand.

Patterns for Pirates sweetheart dress is a great option for a fun and modest dress if you choose the right option from the many available. I chose a solid bodice and  1/2 sleeves as well as a knee length skirt.  as I said before I had to make some modification based on fabric. I had one yard of our red solid dbp and a large scrap of a dbp floral we had in the shop long ago.  I was able to do a 1/4 circle skirt instead of a full circle and color block the arms to make it work.

Hopefully this will be the perfect dress for a beautiful , body conscious young woman. I think she looks amazing and I hope this dress helps her feel like the amazing person she it.

Its a hard lesson to learn to be who you are and I think many young people struggle with this. When you add the fact that sometimes puberty hits you in the face way before all your friends it can be even harder to not try to hide who you are. Gwen is an amazing ,talented, beautiful, and smart young woman ( man you should hear her sing!)and I know she will some day realize how great she is. I hope this dress helps her feel a little better about her outward appearance and hopefully see that she is beautiful inside and out.
